When trying to open fireGPG options, firefox 3 turns not responding.

It's probably the XpCom. Do you have private key ? if not, sometimes it's break FireGPG.
To disable the XpCom, go to about:config . Create a new boolean value, with the name extensions.firegpg.disable_xpcom and set it to true. Restart Firefox and retry.

Disabling XpCom fixed it. Does disabling XpCom has any disadvantages?
