Re: Trouble With New Release

On witch platform are you ?

Re: Trouble With New Release

I am having the same issue. Firefox 3.0.3 and newest update (couple days ago) of FireGPG. I am running Ubuntu 8.04 and it was working before the update. I installed the IPC libs I found in apt just in case, made no difference. Please help fix as I use this for work and cant decrypt using FireGPG (gpg console sucks!). Thanks.

I have verified this has happened to other co-workers as well. They are running Mac OS X.

Re: Trouble With New Release

Il you're running Ubuntu x86_64 it's won't works. Same for Mac OS. Wait for the next release.

Re: Trouble With New Release

Is it possible to acquire one of the previous functional releases in the meantime?  When is a release compatible with Mac OS expected?

Re: Trouble With New Release

See install page. But there are affected by SERIOUS SECURITY ISSUES ! So I advice you to wait.

Edit : and for when, it's when I found a mac wink

I also have this problem, using:
Windows XP SP2
Firefox 2.0.0.17
FireGPG 0.6.1

Re: Trouble With New Release

Yep big problems here on mac OSX.

Anyone have a link to the previous release?  (yes, I know security issues...)

That seems like a very counter-productive answer to the problem, especially since it has been working up to this point. Since there are many 64bit kernel users and many Mac OS X users, why not fix the problem?

Re: Trouble With New Release

0.5.2 is the latest version that still works for macs, I think:
[link removed]

Where is it storing the cleartext files?  I couldn't find them by searching directly in suspect locations, but if I knew where they were, I wouldn't worry so much about the security hole as I could simply delete (& overwrite...) the files after they were created.

Re: Trouble With New Release

@mblais : Firefox 2 is not supported and will be not supported any more.

@tekkitan : We will support this platform again but fix the security problem was more urgent. You simply have to wait...

@keflavich : In the temp folder. The problem is there are removed, but another program can read it just after there are created.

Re: Trouble With New Release

It was nice using FireGPG then. Since I use this for work, I cannot afford to not be able to use something and the company not support something that has worked for many months. My company will be looking for an alternative, suggestions are welcomed.

Re: Trouble With New Release

Maybe you should sometime read what we say. Firegpg is currently in beta stage since we begin, so if it's so critical for you you shouln't use it. And we're voluntairs, we do what we can. "THERE IS NO WARRANTY FOR THE PROGRAM", blablabla (gpl),

Be sure that we drop (again, only for a moment for macos/x86_64) some support not for the fun... Security is more important

Btw there is currently not alternatives for Gnupg/Firefox so...

I have read what you said. I realize it is in beta, but not supporting Mac and x86_64 these days is a horrible decision, that is a very large user base to not support. What does not make me happy was your response. Nothing like "we are working on it and will have an announcement when support for these architectures is implemented" or something along those lines, just "wait". Any developer should realize this was the wrong approach and will create outrage among the community.

Re: Trouble With New Release

First, understand you're the 999th to ask the question. Second, we do this on free time. I haven't free time this days, I report many things just for firegpg. And everyone who wants everything just now, it's get me on nerves. 3) I know it's will made a lot of angry users, but again, security first. 4) If you want a date better than "wait", but I can't promise anything, x86_64 support will probably come Saturday. And for mac I'm tring to find one... I can do anything better. And if I said "Mac support is only dropped for 2 week" or anything else, and I can't for any reason, I will recive more feedback from the community so... It's better to said "no" and after "in fact, yes" than giving false hopes.

Re: Trouble With New Release

I understand everything you said, and thank you for the link. I appreciate all you guys are doing. All I wanted to point out was that Mac and 64-bit users are a large portion of your users these days, with Windows installs going 64-bit (not sure if these users were broken too as I don't use it), popular Linux distros like Ubuntu coming with 64bit installers and Macs gaining a large percentage compared to previous years in the home user and business user market and with recommended memory for some applications and whatnot being upwards to 4gb or more.

Again, I appreciate all of the developers of FireGPG and other freeware software.

Re: Trouble With New Release

Hey all,

Im getting this IPC error on a fresh install of windows XP SP3 and Firefox 3.04 . Any reason why I should be getting this in a windows environment?

Re: Trouble With New Release

Hi,

No, realy no !

Maybe Windows x86_64 ?

Re: Trouble With New Release

No mate, its just a plain XP pro SP3 build. Is the IPC library something you can re-install?!

Re: Trouble With New Release

Ive reinstalled Firefox and GPG and FireGPG and reimported my key but still:

Is there anything I can try?

edit: Ok Ive tried this again on my VM test box and I get the exact same issue on a fresh install of Firefox 3.04 with the latest Firegpg. Can someone also please try this to see if they get the same problem - install gpg and firefox and firegpg on a new profile. Unless theres something wrong with the keys importing...gpg doesnt report any errors.
