The 0.5 there is an xpcom. Yes it's has a better support to access to gnupg, but it's sometimes make firefox crash for some users. So you see, we have to chose between one of the two problems wink. Next release will be with a stable XpCom wink

Hum. GnuPG use a special char encoding and we use the enigmail's functions to rencode them..

On witch plateform are you ? Is it working with enigmail ?

It's not a check for update, but a ping for stats about xpcom ( http://blog.getfiregpg.org/2008/07/07/about-stats/ ).

Currenty there no ways to prevent it (but it's will). As it's seem the xpcom is working, you can set extensions.firegpg.xpcom_state to 1 (the newstate value) and he will not send ping anymore beacause there is no changes wink
